For MotFN 121: The Promised Land

August 1919- German goverment forces had failed to control the Spartacist uprising in the former empire, as the quick unexpected attacks along with the mass support from the citizens led to victory. The Freikorps was disbanded after the Battle for Munich in May. And any remaning forces in the Rurh stood no chance against the Ruhr Red Army. Now, a new face had dawned onto the German people, and they were not ready for it.

1920's- As the decade rolled in the German people were in shock due to the communist victory. The Freikorps, seen as the only hope for conservative Germans operated in increasingly small numbers. This is, due to many incedents of the deaths of Freikorps members, they escaped to South America. In particular, Chile. As during the Great War, the German community pressured the Chilean goverment to let a German warship be stationed in port for 2 weeks, they seemed like they would be open to their kin moving to the same nation.

At first, it was mostly Freikorps members from Upper Selisia, Bavaria, and the Ruhr due to sharing the same religon (Catholism). They settled in the capital, the surrounding region, along with setteling in the already German influenced regions of Valdivia, Osorno and Llanquihue. But very quickly Freikorps members of any relgion started to escape to Chile, along with many citizens. In Valpariso and Santiago German neighboorhoods starting to pop up such as "Pequeño Alemania" and "Pequeño Baviera". German businessman moved up north to Iquique where the saltpeter mines of Chile resided.

During this time period the Chilean Army and the Carabineros de Chile (Chilean Police Force) saw a boost in numbers, as enitre Freikorps units (or what remained of them) integrated into the previously mentioned organizations. Such as the Ehrhardt Brigade (which fought in Munich) and remnants of the Upper Silesian Free Corps. Groups such as these kept their uniforms and insignia from Germany.

2010's- In the Chilean Presidential Election of 2013 a German by the name of Mortz Bauer won and took office. The 2015 Chilean Census shows how 20% of all Chileans have German ancestry or are German. (In the map below the labeled cities have a major German population)
