American Greenland

Due to the resaerch of this map being very limited I really don't know if this is realistic or not. (In my opnion it's not) Anway here's the scenario:


Like in OTL, a few German bases are set up in Greenland during WW2, this time they send a battalion of about 300 German soldiers and one plane from Norway. While there, they do a recruiting campaign, giving them around 100 dollars each. Pearl Harbor occurs, and the United States declares war on the Axis. 

300 American soldiers were sent to Greenland, where whenever near any villages the paid recruits would attack. The Germans were scattered across the country, so it was harder for the Americans to hunt down. 

The first real exchange occurred in Nuuk, it would last for several hours. In the end about 1/3 of both side's units died. The German plane that was sent bombed the Americans after the battle ended. 

The next day, the Americans managed to capture a German who was sent out from one of the few German camps. He told then their position, and their numbers. In the camp there was 50 Germans and all died or were captured.

From here, a American plane would be sent and hunt out any Germans. The German plane and shot down and most Germans died and the occupation was over. Or at least, that what was the Americans thought.

Guerrilla warfare starts, the paid recruits and the remaining Germans would capture or kill any Americans and burn any American infustructure. This would last for years, as they moved around in small numbers. More and more Americans arrive in small numbers to find these Germans. And as Norway was being liberated by the Allies, there are incedents of Germans coming in escaping planes and landing in Greenland. This only added to the numbers of the Germans.

In June 1945, the last Germans were captured. By now there were a small community of Americans in the country and they settled down. Surprisingly more Americans, usually from Maine and other colder states came to the country. America started to build a small base in Nuuk.

This was hated by the Danish goverment, the U.S. goverment sees this and the two goverments agree to a referendum vote to see what the residents of the island say. There were three options. The first one was for Greenland to be indepedent, the second was for Greenland to be part of Denmark, and the third was to be part of the U.S. 

The third option gets the most votes and officaly becomes part of the U.S. on July 25 1945.

From there the U.S. builds much infrastructure in the new territory seeing it as a perfect place to set up trading companies, and when the Cold War sets in, a state perfect for a nuclear base.

In 1961, Greenland becomes several differant states, based off of the original Greenlandian states.
